Uncommon resident.

On Quercus, larva makes a slender tortuous mine which can be seen as a raised gallery in the smooth silvery bark of young oak stems and saplings, usually on the south side of the tree in sunny situations. Adults come to light.

Mines of this species and E.longicaudella are not separable without rearing the adult. So far only atrifrontella found in the region. Records for longicaudella are restricted to Bernwood Forest in Buckinghamshire to date (where it is abundant).
