Fairly common resident.

Most easily recorded from mines on Birch Betula spp., with larvae feeding from July to October. Forms a gallery with dispersed brown frass in arcs and narrow clear margins (unlike S. continuella where the green frass completely fills the gallery). The larvae, which mines venter upwards, are yellow with a brown head and a line of dark ventral spots.
